Rock Cottage sits between Mawgan and Gear Bridges on a promontory overlooking the upper reaches of the Helford River on two sides. There are no other properties in view and its magnificent scenery has not changed in centuries!
The village is a short walk from the cottage and has The Ship Inn and its popular restaurant, a 12c church and the very useful Mawgan Stores. In the opposite direction, and crossing the ancient Gear Bridge, up hill you will find the Gear Farm Pasty shop. Further on are routes to Frenchman's Creek, , Newtown St Martin, Manaccan and eventually Helford.
Helston town, famous for Flora Day in early May, is ten minutes by car and has a large Tesco Store, Sainsbury's with a Lidls on the outskirts of the town, as well as many pubs, bakers/pasty shops, cafes, tea shops, a leisure centre, cinema and a folk museum. It is an interesting town and worth a visit.
