Location

Rock Cottage sits between the Mawgan and Gear Bridges on a promontory overlooking the upper reaches of the Helford River on two sides. There are no other dwellings in view and its magnificent scenery has not changed in centuries!

The village is a short walk from the cottage and has The Ship Inn and its popular restaurant, a 12c church and the very useful Mawgan Stores. In the opposite direction, after crossing the ancient Gear Bridge and via St Martin, are routes to Frenchman's Creek, Manaccan, Gillan, St Anthony and Helford where there is a foot ferry crossing to Helford Passage.

Helston town, famous for Flora Day in early May, is ten minutes by car and has a large Tesco Store, Sainsbury's and a Lidls. There are a few traditional pubs including the late medieval Blue Anchor, with its skittle alley and home brewed Spingo ales.  Helston has bakers/pasty shops, cafes, tea shops, a leisure centre, boating lake, cinema and a folk museum. It is an interesting Stannary town and worth a visit.
