About Rock Cottage .....

This picturesque 16th century property has been in our family for 71 years and is very much loved and cared for.  It remains completely alone overlooking the unspoilt Mawgan creek of the Helford river, where time seems to stand still.

Described as unique and in a little piece of paradise with a magnificent exclusive view, our stunning cottage sits elevated on a projecting rock foundation within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We have water frontage on both sides bordering our woodland and large garden. Birdsong and the gentle lapping of the tidal Mawgan creek occasionally breaks the silence.

Rock Cottage has been featured in the book, 'Five years from Now' which was written by The Sunday Times and USA Today best selling author, Paige Toon.  The property and its unique setting gave her the inspiration for her novel whilst holidaying here with her family.

At this very special place you will escape the hustle and bustle, relax and find yourself away from it all!

With no neighbours or owners within sight or sound, you will find you have complete privacy during your stay.  A rare find in this day and age!  At Rock Cottage you will make some wonderful memories to take home with you.  See you soon.

Ideas for outings ...

If you can tear yourself away from Rock Cottage, within an easy 10 minute drive, you will soon discover some of the beautiful sandy beaches and fishing coves of the Lizard Peninsula.  The serpentine cliffs and turquoise sea at Kynance Cove is sublime!

Not to be missed are many glorious gardens and a firm favourite is the exotic valley at Trebah which leads through Durgan and down to a beach on the Helford river. For National Trust gardens, do visit Glendurgan, or Trengwainton which overlooks St Michael's Mount, Godolphin or even Trelissick. Not to be missed, is a day out to the Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project.

A short car ride from the cottage is the Gweek Seal Sanctuary, Helston Boating lake,  and the Folk museum.  In Helford village is the Sailing Club and a foot passenger ferry which will take you across to Helford Passage.

For those who enjoy a good walk, we recommend Frenchman's creek, Tremayne Quay, Bosahan and around Helford and Gillan.

With so many places to visit and things to do: Eden Project, art galleries, Geevor tin mine, St Michael's Mount, Minack Theatre, Falmouth Maritime museum, river and sea boat trips, you will find there is something that suits all age groups and interests.

Your dog at Rock Cottage ....

An obedient dog is welcome to join you at Rock Cottage, but please read our Terms and Conditions first before booking as these contain the House Rules and must be adhered to.

Our property has a gated entrance, a Cornish hedge on two sides with a large garden and waterside woodland. The river borders our grounds and slopes steeply to a muddy and unfenced foreshore.

We politely ask you to respect our property and not allow your dog to enter the carpeted lounge which has an open staircase and leads to the upstairs bedrooms. Before arrival and to assist, a dog gate will be in place in case your furry friend has other ideas!  Your pet should be housed in either the kitchen or hallway since the flooring in these areas is washable.

Due to space in the kitchen area and with your comfort in mind, we prefer not to accept more than four persons in total when there is a dog.

Many guests tell us how much their dog loved exploring the garden and woodland at Rock Cottage. There are great walks and dog friendly beaches nearby and the local eateries are happy to accept well behaved dogs.

What it's like to holiday on South West Cornwall's Helford River...

The below extracts from guest comments gives you an idea of what there is to see and do whilst staying at Rock Cottage!

"We loved Rock Cottage and the beautiful Mawgan Creek, the constant seaside chorus & rhythm of the tide offering wonderful distractions; crabbing, exploring the river with Peggy, paddle boarding under bridges and feeding the fat wood pigeon amongst many other little friends; remote yet so quickly connected to the best of Cornwall’s beaches...this is Cornwall at her beautiful best. ... This really is one of the most magical places we have ever stayed. We loved the peace and quiet, and the wonderful view of the creek. We found beautiful beaches, boating, coastal paths and body boarding all in a short distance along with some tasty eateries!"
